1 pound bratwurst sausages
1 onion, thinly sliced
5 tablespoons butter
2-3 (12 fluid ounce) cans or bottles beer
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
5 hoagie rolls

1. Place bratwurst in a Dutch oven with the onions and butter. Pour in enough beer to cover. Heat to boiling; reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
2. Preheat grill for medium-high heat.
3. Lightly oil grate. Cook bratwurst on preheated grill for 10 to 14 minutes, turning occasionally to brown evenly. Serve hot off the grill with onions on hoagie rolls
