1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups unsweetened applesauce

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons sugar

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine dry ingredients; add to the creamed mixture alternately with applesauce. Pour into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Combine topping ingredients; sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

I made this cake this weekend and loved it! Huge hit for my family. I didn't have regular applesauce, so used cinnamon & it was really great! Thanks for sharing, Heather!
